All... there is some important info embedded in here to pass along as we shift into 2009, I'll post on web as well
FROM DAVE CLARK: Tonight Mark and I have switched the Rankings system from the 2008 ski year as default, to the 2009 ski year instead. This has a number of ramifications. First is that everybody has "aged" exactly one year now, and consequently many skiers will now be appearing in the rankings in a different age division. In just about all cases, their scores from their previous age division will be following them across, and will be contributing to their rankings in their new age division. Exceptions are only in Jumping, where the conditions under which performances may have been accomplished exceed those of the new age division which the skier has moved into. This can occur when moving from M2 to M3, and again from M3 to M4 -- and again at others upstream. Ditto for W2 to W3 and so on. But that's about it. At this point, the 2008 rankings are no longer being automatically updated each night, and from here forwards will only be updated when a manual process run by Brandon or Laura or Mark or I is initiated. So those of us on the Seeding Committee should make it a point to tidy up any leftover exceptions and missing data for ski year 2008 -- then we can finalize the SY 2008 rankings. Hopefully in the next week or two. Question -- who makes the call as to when we consider things "final" ?? All -- The Overall Scores and rankings shown for the 2009 ski year and for the "last 12 months" are now based on the new 2009 NOPS standards, instead of the 2008 NOPS standard that had been in use until earlier this evening. Consequently, skiers may be noticing some changes in their Overall scores and rankings, and that is the reason. Those new basis standards are now in force, and have been applied retroactively across the latest 12 months, automatically. The newly revised 2009 NOPS calculator has been posted on the Waterski page under "Scoring", where it can be accessed and/or downloaded by members and officials as desired. An updated WSTIMS scoring program, release 3.55 -- which includes the 2009 ski year control tables needed to score tournaments with 09xxxx sanction numbers -- was released this weekend -- ie posted on the AWSAEAST download area. A mass e-mail to all Regular and Senior scorers was sent out yesterday, reminding them all to get this new release and use it for their 2009 season events beginning this week. Still, our seeding reps need to be on the lookout for any scorers who run their events on release 3.54 by phonying up the sanction ID to an 08 number, then changing things back to an 09 number afterwards. If so you may find age division mismatches when the scores are imported. Another thing to be on the lookout for. I have received a large number of download registrations today already, so the word is clearly getting around and many are acting on it -- that's promising.
